Cisco Systems is considered to be one of
the world wide leaders in networking for the Internet. Innovation in
communications technology is constantly expanding the scope of networking. Much
like the role that modern telephony has played in creating international
business activities and competition, networks have helped create global
industries. With a predicted shortage of over eighty thousand network skilled
employees in the UK alone, and six hundred thousand in Europe, networking
qualifications are at a premium.
Defence Engineering College, as a "Cisco Systems Local Academy"
(LA) was establieshed in 2001 within
the Regional Academy of Addis Ababa University.
The University is offering part-time and weekend courses in computer networks
and internetworking. These programmes are structured to teach students the
skills needed to design, build and maintain computer networks. These courses
will enable successful candidates to take the Cisco Certified Networking
Associate (CCNA)
examinations.
Cisco currently dominates the router market. Networking professionals have no
choice but to become familiar with Cisco technologies and to begin looking at
training options for Cisco products.
Today's corporations depend on their information networks for
mission-critical operations, and are looking for highly trained networking
professionals to keep them up and running at maximum performance. Qualified
networking experts are in short supply and high demand - there are currently
more Cisco networking jobs available than professionals to fill them.
