Defence College guidance and counseling centre/section offers individual and group counseling to increase military, academic, social and physical performance. Some students may experience adjustment problems or personal crisis during their five years study in DEC. To assist students in coping with various problems, the counselor provides direct personal and group counseling on many important issues, such as establishing and maintaining relationships, coping with anxiety and depression, working on changing relationships with parents and other family members, dealing with losses, and handling new academic demands. In addition, international students are able to find that the counselor help them in adjusting to life in Ethiopia. The counselor also coordinates students to increase their awareness about HIV/AIDS via establishing anti HIV/AIDS club.



The College shall admit students from different defence units, as well as from the general public either through direct recruitment and/or based on certain commitments and procedures. Admission to any of the degree programs that the College runs are based on the following criteria:

Admission of students who are already in service:

  • They must secure the required grade point average of EHEE results decided by the Ministry of Education for that year
  • Must pass the College’s entrance examination (English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics)
  • Must have a support letter from MoND or other relevant defence units which indicate their performance report and willingness to sign service agreement with MoND
  • Must have a possibility of serving a minimum of 2 years for each year of training after graduation and before retirement
  • The maximum age limit shall be 30
  • Must fulfill other criteria that arise from prevailing situations encountered from time to time.
