Over View

Welcome to the department of Computer Science and Engineering, Defence Engineering College, Ethiopia is distinguished for the quality and intensity of its educational experience. CS&E is one of the strongest departments at Defence Engineering College and one of the strongest Computer Science and Engineering undergraduate programs in Ethiopia.

The mission of the Department is providing the highest quality instruction to our undergraduates, providing leadership and service to our professional communities mainly Ministry of National Defence, Ethiopia. We are committed to do extremely well in all components of this mission.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established in 1992 E.C. under the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and later became independent department. The Department was initiated with expatriate scholars and later grown up to the present state with well established faculty members apart from several visiting professors, distinguished professionals from industry, eminent researchers and teaching/research associates.

Academic Programs

The Department of CSE aims to carve a place for itself as a centre of excellence offering a good blend of academic programmes. Its main objectives include generating competent professionals and keeping pace with the technological advancements. Currently, the department offers following Undergraduate Programmes.

Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.-Computer Science)
Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech. -Computer Engineering)
Advanced Diploma in Computer Technology
Diploma in Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
Short term training programs
Consultancy Work

The programme coordinators and committees work towards ensuring effective and efficient delivery of teaching-learning objectives of the above academic programmes through continuous improvement of faculty-students. A committee of professors and experts are ' inspiration ' of the department for achieving its objectives towards.

In Future

To be innovative and competent in international standard, the department plans to perform the following fields.

Revision and up gradation of curriculum
To start Post Graduation in Computer Science and Engineering
To start Under Graduation in Information Technology
Specialized Staff Development Programs

Laboratories

The department has excellent laboratory and computing infrastructure including subject-specific labs such as Programming Languages, Database Systems, Networking, Visual Studio and Internet.

The labs are well equipped with the high-end computers, relevant software packages and latest equipment for training and research. Thus these labs ideally complement the needs of the students, teachers and the college.

Computing Infrastructure

Qualified handouts in Bookstore, highly established library and Internet Center are the pro-active roles to ensure quality and effectiveness teaching-learning activities
